General and Essential Features of Laptops

Laptops are the computers of choice today and this is mostly due to their portability and low consumption of power. Even though there are different brands of laptops like Dell, HP and Toshiba, among others, in the market today, they have several similar features. Since a laptop is a mini computer, most computer features are found in a laptop. One of the main features is the display unit which can either be a liquid crystal or plasma display. The display comes in different sizes, from 14 inches to 19 inches, depending on the type and brand of laptop you are using.
Another similar feature found in all laptops is the random access memory (RAM), which is also different in various laptops and can be anything between 256 MB to 4 GB. RAM is the memory that stores the work that you are currently doing. The processor is yet another similar feature in all laptops. This is what ensures that the commands typed in are processed to give results. The hard disk is also available in all laptops and this is where all the software applications, including the operating system, are stored. The capacity of this hard disk varies with each laptop brand and type.
All laptops also have inbuilt keyboards for input purposes. Laptops are designed with another input device, either a pointing stick or a touch pad. Additionally, some laptops allow users to connect a mouse if users find it difficult to use these other input devices. Laptops use batteries which are supposed to be charged through an AC/DC adaptor. If the laptop is not connected to a power source, the laptop uses the power already in the battery. Each laptop battery life will depend on usage, although most of them last up to three hour or more.
Another similar feature found on laptops is the operating system. There are many operating systems on the market today, but most laptops use Microsoft Windows OS, especially Windows XP, Vista and 7. Most laptops also have USB connection ports to ensure that users are able to connect other devices to their laptops, such as cameras, flash disks and external hard disks, among others. There are also other ports available in laptops including serial ports, HDMI ports and Internet ports. These ports can be used to connect the laptop to other display devices such as a TV. An express card or PC card expansion port can also be found in some modern laptops.
