Windows 8 Keyboard Shortcuts: An Overview Of The Main Key Combos and Actions

I’m pretty sure you all know the Windows 8 Consumer Preview Beta version was released to the public for free a few days  ago [details and download]. More than one million downloads took place and reviews are coming all over the web.

I’m not going to review the OS in this post (I’ll do that in a few days here at GadgetRoad), but I’m going to give you a list of keyboard shortcuts that will come in handy in the 8th Generation Windows operating system

Even if you’re a keyboard navigation guru a lot of things have changed in the list of keyboard shortcuts you can use mainly because the focus in the new OS is on the Metro interface, borrowed from the Windows Phone 7 and which promises to offer a much better touchscreen interface. Seeing that Windows 7 was nowhere near the touch experience everyone hoped for I’d say this important change from Microsoft is more than welcome.

Here are the main shortcut combos [taken from here] you need to know if you want to navigate efficiently in the new Metro interface, and the desktop, which didn’t disappear completely in Windows 8. The only major thing that disappeared was the Start button and menu, which were replaced by a start page where all your app tiles and displayed. It’s the best homepage yet, by my standards.

And a quick video preview video I’ve put together after the first few hours of interacting with Windows 8:
