Dixons closes its (virtual) doors

Dixons.co.uk will cease trading tomorrow so that parent company Dixons Retail can concentrate on the PC World and Currys brands

The Dixons stores vanished from our high streets back in 2005 and now the online store is going the same way. The only place you’ll see the name is at UK Airports where Dixons Travel continues to sell you that adapter you forgot to pack.

Closure of the site will allow parent company Dixons to focus on competing against its rivals, most notably other powerhouse online brands like Amazon and eBuyer.

The company has already made some closures this year, announcing back in June that 100 high street stores were to be shut down.

Whilst the Dixons site will sell its last gadget tomorrow, the PC World and Currys homepages will be treated to a makeover. All in an effort to halt Jeff Bezos’ march towards retail deification.
