Ubisoft sue Black Eyed Peas for $1m over iPhone game

Ubisoft started developing a game featuring the Black Eye Peas in March 2012 that has since never seen the light of day because the record company allegedly refused to do anything about it

Ubisoft is suing the Black Eyed Peas on the grounds that the band commissioned them to make a game for iPhone and iPad which was then never released by the record company.

A spokesman for Ubisoft say the lawsuit for $1m (£620,000) is simply a case of breach of contract and could have been avoided if BEP music had approved the game or let them know that they were not happy with it.

In a strange twist BEP Music instead refused to do either despite Ubisoft and the record label signing a contract to develop the game at the beginning of the year. Ubisoft spent over £150,000 developing the game for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

"Since March 2012, and despite Ubisoft's repeated requests, BEP Music has breached the contract by failing and refusing to either approve or disapprove the iOS game in writing or otherwise," Ubisoft said in a statement.

The Black Eyed Peas are currently on hiatus with their members working on solo projects but band members will.i.am and Fergie are the most high profile. Will.i.am has spent his time taking part in the BBC talent show “The Voice” and also recently stared in “X-Men: First Class”.
