Owner Andre Alves explains that the early viruses back in the 1970s and 1980s were more like pranks used mostly to joke around. The famous ping pong ball that used to jump around your screen between your documents and spread sheets was funny for a little bit but got to be annoying after a while. Then malicious viruses were developed in order to delete documents and corrupt operating systems sectors and not allow the computer to be functional. People then had to start using antivirus removal software. The response from the software developers was to increase the software security in order to create a shield around the viruses. This was in order to avoid any virus infections and having the user do any type of virus removal.
As the software manufactures increase their software security in the form of "security updates", viruses adapt and become more sophisticated in order to penetrate the software security. The virus can infiltrate in the form of an email, a hacked website or by phishing. A lot of times store bought software will not remove the virus due to the complex coding viruses have. On the down side, you will only find this out after you spent a few hundred dollars on software that does not work. Not to mention the countless hours of installing, running the software and then going back to the store and not being able to return the software since it has already been opened. Most computer stores only offer to exchanges for the same exact software which does not help your viral situation. Most customers are now finding out that it is much easier just to bring their desktops or laptops to Aware Bear Computers Rochester NY and have us do a professional virus removal.

How To Remove The XP Security 2012 Virus On A Windows XP Computer

If your computer is infected with the XP security 2012 virus then you will no doubt be suffering from a number of annoying symptoms as this is a very intrusive piece of malware which is rather persistent and may continue to reappear even if your antivirus program informs you that it has detected and removed the problem.

The reason that XP Security 2012 cannot always be removed by your antivirus program is because it makes some complicated changes to your registry settings which case the virus to be re-initiated upon restarting your computer. Please follow the steps below in order to safely remove this virus whilst preserving your system data:

N.B Do not reboot your PC until you have completed all stages of this process (rebooting it will mean that you have to start from the beginning again!).

1) The first step is to download a file that can repair the changes made to your computers registry. Search Google for a file called FixNCR.reg and download this to your PC. There are several well-known download sites which have this file available. N.B. If your internet connection has been affected by the virus infection then you will need to download this file from a different computer and transfer it via a USB drive for example.

2) Double click FixNCR.reg - this will then very quickly correct modifications that have been made to your computers registry by the XP Security 2012 virus.

3) Download a second file called RKill (again this is easily found at all major download sites via a quick Google Search). Double click this file to run Rkill - this is basically a useful DOS-Based program that will scan for, and terminate any active processes of the XP security 2012 virus. This can take several minutes to complete so be patient at this stage and wait for program to report that it has finished scanning your computer.

4) Now that RKill has terminated the virus you will need to download one more free tool, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware which is available from numerous download sites. Double click to install the program once installed. Once installed open the program from the shortcut it has created on your desktop and it will ask you if you wish to update the databases - click "yes" to update the database to the latest version.

5) Once Malwarebytes has updated and launched you will need to select the option "perform full system scan". Click "scan" and choose your main system drive (likely to be the C: Drive), This program will take some time to scan and detect all files relating to the XP Security 2012 virus. Once the scan has completed it will indicate in red how many infected files have been found. Click the "show results" tab and click on the option "remove selected files".

6) You computer should now be free of the XP Security 2012 virus and this is the end of the removal process.

Possible Issues With Windows Updates

After removal check the status of your automatic update settings to ensure that they are still enabled (control panel-security centre-windows updates). If they are marked as disabled and you are unable to re-enable them then you will need to download a tool called Dial-A-Fix. Install and run this free tool, ticking all the boxes relating to windows updates (untick any other boxes). Click Go and the program will now scan and reset your Windows Update settings.

Final Thoughts

Hopefully if all goes well then you will be clear of the XP Security 2012 virus and you will notice that your PC has returned to normal. If you still have problems then at this stage it would be advisable to contact a specialist virus removal company to isolate and remove the virus from your computer.

Virus Protection

Virus Protection is used to prevent, detect, and remove malware, including but not limited to computer viruses, computer worm, trojan horses, spyware and adware. This page talks about the software used for the prevention and removal of such threats, rather than computer security implemented by software methods.

A variety of strategies are typically employed. Signature-based detection involves searching for known patterns of data within executable code. However, it is possible for a computer to be infected with new malware for which no signature is yet known. To counter such so-called zero-day threats, heuristics can be used. One type of heuristic approach, generic signatures, can identify new viruses or variants of existing viruses by looking for known malicious code, or slight variations of such code, in files. Some antivirus software can also predict what a file will do by running it in a sandbox and analyzing what it does to see if it performs any malicious actions.

No matter how useful antivirus software can be, it can sometimes have drawbacks. Antivirus software can impair a computer's performance. Inexperienced users may also have trouble understanding the prompts and decisions that antivirus software presents them with. An incorrect decision may lead to a security breach. If the antivirus software employs heuristic detection, success depends on achieving the right balance between false positives and false negatives. False positives can be as destructive as false negatives. Finally, antivirus software generally runs at the highly trusted kernel level of the operating system, creating a potential avenue of attack.

New viruses
Anti-virus programs are not always effective against new viruses, even those that use non-signature-based methods that should detect new viruses. The reason for this is that the virus designers test their new viruses on the major anti-virus applications to make sure that they are not detected before releasing them into the wild.

Some new viruses, particularly ransomware, use polymorphic code to avoid detection by virus scanners. Jerome Segura, a security analyst with ParetoLogic, explained:

"It's something that they miss a lot of the time because this type of [ransomware virus] comes from sites that use a polymorphism, which means they basically randomize the file they send you and it gets by well-known antivirus products very easily. I've seen people firsthand getting infected, having all the pop-ups and yet they have antivirus software running and it's not detecting anything. It actually can be pretty hard to get rid of, as well, and you're never really sure if it's really gone. When we see something like that usually we advise to reinstall the operating system or reinstall backups."

A proof of concept virus has used the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) to avoid detection from anti-virus software. The potential success of this involves bypassing the CPU in order to make it much harder for security researchers to analyse the inner workings of such malware.

How Would you know that your PC is Virus Infected or Not?

In this 21st century a personal computer/laptop is like a personal bank account. Accessing your bank account, transferring funds, online shopping through credit card or Internet banking and many more we do it in our computer but are we sure that our computer/laptop is secure for this kind of transaction. An infected PC is like an open bank account where it can be used by somebody else also. Before the symptoms and threats of computer virus on your PC let's first understand, what is computer virus?

Computer Virus

A computer virus is a malicious computer program that can replicate itself and spread from one computer to another without any permission from the owner. The term "virus" is also commonly but erroneously used to refer to other types of malware like spyware, adware, worms, Trojan horses, rootkits, etc.

According to a survey in March 2011

Trojan Horses(69.99%) is a type of malware that apparently performs a desirable function for the user. However, what the user does not see is that, although it really performs the useful function, it also facilitates access to the user's PC. Literally, Trojan malware is not a virus because it is unable to replicate.

Here are some of the things a Trojan horse can do:

Steal private data (like passwords, user names, credit card info, etc)
Install other malware programs like spyware ,adware etc
Download your personal files from your PC
Upload any files to your PC
Delete important data from your PC
Modify files on your PC
Log your keystrokes to gain access to passwords or entire conversations
View your entire screen and monitor your activity

Computer worms(7.77%) are not viruses. In fact, there is a big difference between a computer worm and a virus. First, the worm does not need any file to act as its host. Most of them simply consume network bandwidth, as opposed to computer viruses that usually destroy files. There are tens of thousands of computer worms on the internet, so you can be sure that you have at least one of them hiding in your file system.

Adware(2.27) does is show some random paid ads in the program's interface or as a separate popup advertisement. Adware is considered a lawful way to make money for developers that are willing to let you use their products free of charge. Adware does not track your activity and does not store or send any bit of information from your computer.

Spyware (0.08%) ,one of the most dangerous types of computer programs. It is a form of computer malware that specializes in stealing sensitive information and sending it to the attacker. The program stored your account names, Social Security Number (SSN), passwords, and other info and sent them to the hacker.
