It's not yet known what will be under the hood but it would be safe to say that Samsung will have equipped it with a quad-core processor, at least 2GB of RAM and the upcoming version of Android known as Key Lime Pie.

Alongside this mammoth tablet Google will reportedly be launching a new Nexus 4 smartphone by LG and an updated version of the T3 Award-winning Google Nexus 7 which will feature 3G connectivity and 32GB of storage putting it right in the firing line of Apple's new iPad Mini.

Google to host Android event on October 29

Google has sent out invites to selected members of the press for an Android event to be held in New York on October 29

Many have speculated that the event will see the unveiling of the next Nexus smartphone - widely thought to be the LG Nexus 4.

Google's tagline for the event is a cryptic "the playground is open" message, which could mean we'll see more than one device making an apperance.

Rumours have suggested Google are planning to work with multiple manufacturers for the next generation of Nexus device - with possible Samsung and HTC handsets on the horizon.

Google has been busy over at Nexus HQ as news emerged yesterday of a 32GB Google Nexus 7 making its way over to the UK for Christmas.

The event from Google will cap an interesting few days in the tech industry as Apple is rumoured to be launching an iPad mini next week while Microsoft is unleashing its new Windows 8 OS and Surface tablet.

Google's announcement is slated for 10am in New York (3pm over here in the UK) and the whole event will be streamed live at YouTube.com/Android.

iPad mini: Launch live blog

We're just days away from Apple's latest launch event which will almost certainly see the company debut a smaller version of its all-conquering iPad tablet. Join us here for full coverage

Apple will hold a press conference next Tuesday October 23, during which the company is widely expected to announced the long-rumoured iPad mini device.

Invites to the 'Special Event' landed in the T3 inbox earlier this week with Apple promising, "We've got a little something to show you" and, while the invite stops short of confirming the device, the clue appears to be in the title.

As always, we'll be live-blogging events from at the California Theatre in San Jose as they happen, with kick-off expected at from 6pm UK time.

So with almost an entire year of speculation building towards this event, what can we expect from the iPad mini?

Most observers expect Apple to launch a sleek 7.8-inch device to complement the traditional 9.7-inch model, enabling Cupertino to meet the threat from affordable Android tablets like the Google Nexus 7 and the Amazon Kindle Fire.

A purported inventory listing which leaked this weekend suggest that the iPad Mini will also be priced competitively. The inventory screenshot showed the the basic 8GB Wi-Fi may only cost 249 Euros, which translates into £200 with today's exchange rate. However it seems likely that Apple would abandon its premium pricing policy to match the likes of Amazon and Google.

More reports have claimed that Apple will keep the costs down by keeping the device Wi-Fi only, while the new Lightning connector, which debuted on the iPhone 5, is likely to replace the 30-pin connector seen on previous iPad models.

The launch of an iPad mini, in itself, would have been considered a surprise just a year ago, given the late Steve Jobs' well-reported stance on tablet size. He once claimed that 7-inch slates were dead-on-arrival, but reportedly began to warm to the idea in 2011.

Anything else?

Beyond the iPad mini it has also been suggested that Apple will tweak the new iPad 3 model (which was announced in March this year) to incorporate the Lightning connector and 4G connectivity for the soon-to-launch Everything Everywhere 4G network.

More speculation has focused on revamped iMacs, a 13-inch Retina Display MacBook Pro and, to continue the diminutive theme of the event, a revamped Mac mini.

Stay tuned to T3.com for all the latest news and gossip leading up to the event and don't forget to join us for the live blog at 6pm on Tuesday.

iPad Mini launch: Apple announces 'Special Event'

The Apple iPad Mini rumour mill will no doubt hit overdrive as Apple have just sent out invites for an event on October 23rd where we could see the iPad Mini getting its debut

Apple has just sent out invites that all-but confirm iPad Mini launch rumours, consisting of a 'Special Event' which could well see the release of the smaller iPad format along with possibly a new 13-inch MacBook Retina Display and a new iMac.

The event which has been set for October 23rd contained the message 'We've got a little more to show you' which not only suggests heavily that the long-awaited smaller brother of the iPad could be unveiled but also that Apple could do a 'one more thing' and throw a 13-inch MacBook Retina into the mix.

Just a few days ago images had been leaked showing what appeared to be the battery for the iPad Mini suggesting that the product would offer a battery life that would sit between that of the New iPad and the iPhone 5.

Apple iPad Mini Specs

iPad Mini Specs are thin on the ground however most experts believe Apple will unveil a 7-inch tablet operating iOS 6 and featuring some of the same specs seen on the Apple iPad 2.

Rumours have been conflicted regarding the screen however the majority believe the iPad Mini will feature a Retina Display, no word as yet on camera size or if indeed the new tablet will feature a camera.

Check out our iPad Mini Rumours for all the up-to-date info on the prospective bite-sized tablet and come October 23rd T3 will be there to give you all the latest news on what Apple will be releasing.

What should we expect at Apple's March launch event

Apple confirmed on Feb 28 that some form of new iPad tablet computer will be announced next week, and so here is an overview of what the world's biggest technology firm may be about to unleash.

After months of rumour and speculation, an invite was issued yesterday confirming the event at the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Francisco at 10am PST (6pm GMT) on Wednesday, March 7.

The invite simply says that Apple has "something you really have to see - and touch". It is expected that Apple chief executive Tim Cook will lead the presentation, which will be live streamed to a UK press event in London's Kings Cross.

Should an updated iPad be on the agenda for next week, there are things we think we know about the iPad 3, features we're less certain about, and then a few features we're quite certain won't make the cut.

What seems likely
Display fair: Of all the rumored features that the iPad 3 might include, none have been rumored louder than a Retina display. That's the term Apple coined to describe the screen it initially unveiled with the iPhone 4--a screen with a pixel density so extreme that, at normal viewing angles, the average human eye literally can't discern the individual pixels. The iPad, however, has never sported a screen of that quality, even as the iPod touch got in on the Retina display action. A Retina display on the iPad would be no small feat, especially at the iPad's current price, but it seems likely that Apple really will implement the display on its tablet.

True to form: The rumor mill suggests that the iPad 3 will look an awful lot like the iPad 2, though not entirely identical. But we envision a design change far less dramatic than the changes between the original iPad and its successor--don't expect any major hardware changes or new buttons. Some have suggested that Apple might go so far as to remove the Home button in the new iPad, but we don't think it likely since it provides a convenient and impossible-to-lose anchor for users.
Carrier on, my wayward son: And let's not forget carrier deals--the iPhone isn't the only device that can be used on a cellular network. Right now, the iPad 2 is available with a 3G data option for either AT&T or Verizon in the U.S. The iPhone 4S, of course, is also available with Sprint, so it certainly seems like a no-brainer that the company will roll out an iPad model compatible with that carrier's network. That's aided by the fact that Sprint and Verizon both use the CDMA standard for their cell networks, so it should be little trouble for Apple to add a third model.

Photo finish: The iPad 2's cameras are mainly good in comparison to the cameras on the original iPad--which, as you may recall, did not have any cameras. Still, in comparing them to, say, the iPhone 4S's, or even the iPhone 4, the iPad 2's cameras leave much to be desired. While some may argue that the iPad doesn't get used to take pictures in the same way that your phone does, there are plenty of apps that use the camera for other tasks, like video capture and chat, data input, and games. So why not punch up those cameras on the iPad 3? They don't necessarily have to be of the same quality as the cameras built into the iPhone 4S, but the ones from the iPhone 4 would be more than sufficient for now. already have an ipad 2, want to transfer photos from ipad to computer, use the aiseesoft ipad transfer coupon code or cucusoft itunes transfer discount to help you.

What might be possible
Quad-core-rophenia: You can never have too many processor cores, right? The iPad 2's A5 chip sports two cores, packing significant punch over the single core in the original iPad. Apple has shown that it thinks the future isn't just faster processors, but multicore ones. So the company's rumored A6--which would follow logically on the heels of the A4 and A5--could pack four cores, possibly once again giving the device a big boost over its predecessor. Such a change would likely come with a power-consumption price tag, however, especially if combined with LTE. But the improvement in processor capabilities would be nice, especially for those constantly power-hungry games that people so love to play on their tablets

Touch-a, touch-a, touch-a touch me: Looking back at the invitation to the iPad event, it says: "We have something you really have to see. And touch." The first sentence (or, for pedants, the only sentence) seemingly refers to the Retina display. But the follow-up fragment may just imply that the iPad 3 employs some sort of haptic feedback--a tactile response when you touch the screen. Of course, the "And touch" line could merely be nothing more than marketing-speak. But typing is probably the least satisfying element of using an iPad to date. Haptic feedback coupled with the on-screen keyboard might make multitouch-typing a bit easier, if you could feel some physical sensation as you "depress" the virtual keys.

What we don't expect
A smaller iPad: Apple will bundle a stylus with the iPad before it releases a 7-inch version of the tablet.
A stylus: Apple will shut down its company and return the money to the shareholders before it releases a stylus for any of its touch screen devices.
The iPhone 5: This is not an iPhone event, people. The iPhone 4S isn't even six months old yet, so don't expect a newer model.
An updated Mac Pro: We don't even know what article you're reading anymore.
