Whispersync technology keeps track of the last viewed point in a video which can be resumed from another device, such as the PS3.

Meanwhile X-Ray For Movies will embed content from IMBD, which Amazon also owns, into the video, should you want extra info.

Jim Buckle, Managing Director at Lovefilm, said: “Every Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire in the UK comes with seamless integration of Lovefilm giving users access to thousands of movies and TV shows. This is a huge moment for Lovefilm and continues to expand our multi-platform offering – delivering the very best content onto the most popular devices, which can only be great news for film and TV fans.”

In a move that underscores the growing synergy between content services and hardware, Lovefilm has officially arrived on the Amazon Kindle Fire range. This integration brings a new dimension to the Kindle Fire experience, enhancing its value proposition as a versatile entertainment device. Here’s a closer look at what this means for users and why it’s a significant development.

What is Lovefilm?

Lovefilm, once known primarily as a DVD rental service, has evolved into a prominent streaming platform in the UK, offering a vast library of movies and TV shows. Acquired by Amazon in 2011, Lovefilm has since become an integral part of Amazon’s content ecosystem, complementing Amazon Prime Video and expanding the company’s reach in the competitive streaming market.

Integration with Kindle Fire

The arrival of Lovefilm on the Kindle Fire range means that users can now access a rich selection of on-demand video content directly from their tablets. This integration offers several key benefits:

  • Seamless Access: Kindle Fire users can easily browse and stream Lovefilm’s extensive library of movies and TV shows without needing additional devices or complicated setup processes.

  • Enhanced Entertainment Options: With Lovefilm added to the already robust suite of apps and services available on the Kindle Fire, users have more choices than ever for entertainment on the go.

  • Optimized Experience: The Lovefilm app on Kindle Fire is optimized for the device, ensuring smooth playback and an intuitive user interface designed to take full advantage of the tablet’s features.

Benefits for Kindle Fire Users

  1. Expanded Content Library: Lovefilm’s inclusion significantly boosts the available content for Kindle Fire users, offering thousands of titles across various genres. This variety ensures there’s something for everyone, from blockbuster movies to critically acclaimed TV series.

  2. Convenience and Portability: The Kindle Fire’s compact design and portability make it an ideal device for streaming. Users can enjoy their favorite shows and movies anywhere, whether they’re at home, commuting, or traveling.

  3. Unified Ecosystem: For Amazon Prime members, the integration of Lovefilm with Kindle Fire further unifies their digital ecosystem, allowing seamless switching between Lovefilm, Prime Video, Kindle books, and other Amazon services.

  4. User-Friendly Interface: The Lovefilm app is designed to be user-friendly, with easy navigation, personalized recommendations, and robust search functionality. This ensures that users can quickly find and enjoy the content they love.

Competitive Edge

The addition of Lovefilm to the Kindle Fire range strengthens Amazon’s position in the highly competitive tablet and streaming markets. By providing a comprehensive entertainment solution, Amazon enhances the Kindle Fire’s appeal compared to other tablets, such as the iPad or various Android-based devices, which may not offer the same level of integrated content services.

Looking Ahead

As streaming continues to dominate the entertainment landscape, the integration of services like Lovefilm on devices such as the Kindle Fire is likely to become increasingly important. For Amazon, this move not only enhances the user experience but also encourages further engagement with their ecosystem, driving both hardware sales and content consumption.

For users, the arrival of Lovefilm on Kindle Fire represents a significant value addition, making it easier to enjoy a wide array of entertainment options in a convenient, portable format. Whether you’re a long-time Lovefilm subscriber or a new user, this integration promises to deliver a richer, more enjoyable viewing experience.

Conclusion

The arrival of Lovefilm on the Amazon Kindle Fire range is a win-win for both the company and its customers. By seamlessly integrating a vast library of streaming content with a popular and versatile device, Amazon continues to innovate and enhance its offerings. For Kindle Fire users, this means even more reasons to love their device and more ways to enjoy their favorite entertainment, anytime and anywhere.

Stay tuned for more updates as Amazon continues to expand and refine its services, bringing even more exciting features and content to the Kindle Fire and beyond.

Xbox Smartglass release date confirmed

The free SmartGlass app is set to launch this week enabling touchscreen interface and a range of functions for the Xbox 360 console

Microsoft has unveiled a bold new initiative aimed at increasing media cross platform capability for its consumers. The software giant has announced that, alongside Windows 8 and its Surface tablets, which are being launched on October 26th, it'll be releasing the free SmartGlass app at the same time.

SmartGlass essentially turns any tablet, PC or smartphone into a second screen that can be used as an interface with which to access video, music and gaming content on the Xbox 360 console. SmartGlass functionality will be available on the Xbox 360 dashboard from Friday. Microsoft has already started rolling out the new Xbox 360 dashboard, which now combines Video and TV channels and the Xbox Music services.

SmartGlass functionality is also coming to a raft of first party Xbox 360 videogame titles, such as Forza Horizon, Dance Central and Kinect Sesame Street TV.

Industry analysts have posited that the SmartGlass technology is largely a response from Microsoft to the forthcoming Nintendo Wii U's dual screen functionality.

Apple to launch 13-inch MacBook Retina Display October 23rd?

Apple could be moving one step closer to having a completely Retina Display range of MacBooks with rumours suggesting the company is working on a 13-inch model

A new 13-inch Apple MacBook Retina Display could be getting a release date of October 23rd with rumours suggesting that Apple will not only be launching a new iPad Mini but also a thinner iMac as well.

Reports now say that the new 13-inch display will boast a resolution of 2,560-by-1,650 pixels which is a pixel density of 230 pixels-per-inch, slightly higher than the 220 pixels-per-inch of the 15 inch model. The new model is also expected to gain the same thinner profile and solid state storage updates as the 15-inch model.

Apple were originally expected to launch the 13-inch Retina version of the MacBook at the same time as the 15-inch Retina model at Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference back in June however to much surprise there was no mention of the 13-inch model.

Taiwanese electronics industry publication DigiTimes published details claiming that the original delay for the 13-inch model was down to “weak yields” of its high resolution display and that although Apple had improved the situation that the launch of the new model would have limited availability at first due to supply chain constraints.

T3 will have coverage of Apple’s rumoured event on the 23rd October if it happens and you will find out here first if the iPad Mini is indeed joined by a new retina 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Bang & Olufsen unveils new BeoVision 11 luxury TV

Bang & Olufsen has revealed the latest addition to its premium TV range, the BeoVision 11, which will go on sale in selected stores today

The BeoVision 11 is the Danish company’s new luxury TV and, as such, boasts all the technology and specifications you would expect to find for the €5,000+ price tag.

Available in 40-inch, 46-inch and 55-inch variants, the display itself is a 200Hz, LED-based, LCD screen capable of 2D, 3D and Smart TV functionality. In fact, it’s the first TV to feature Bang & Olufsen’s own Smart TV platform, meaning you can easily pull content from the likes of iPlayer and YouTube.

Given that Bang & Olufsen is mostly known for producing high-grade audio equipment, it’s no surprise that one of the highlights of the BeoVision 11 is the on-board speakers. The custom-made left and right channel speakers are set directly below the screen giving the BeoVision 11 a square (rather than standard widescreen) appearance. The channel speakers each include a ¾” tweeter, 2” midrange and 4” bass speaker with a changeable cover panel available in various different colours - to match your décor.

BeoVision 11

T3 was invited to a demo of the BeoVision 11 and we were impressed by both the sound clarity and volume coming from the speakers, not to mention the range of customisations available for each audio setting.

Although, if you just want to sit back and watch, the BeoVision 11 has a built-in signal processing algorithm that automatically swaps the audio mode based on what you’re watching – sports, movies, etc.

Unsurprisingly, the BeoVision 11 supports up to ten audio channels, letting you connect an entire surround sound system to the TV and configuring it yourself any number of ways. It’s a new step for Bang & Olufsen, from a traditionally closed system to effectively letting you change the tiniest aspects of audio or video performance.

The company has even made a technical sound guide downloadable from its website that gives detailed instructions and information about the various tunings and settings available on the TV.

Audio expertise has been matched in the video department with a number of features you’d expect on a TV at this price range. The BeoView 11 has been fitted with a 360-degree light sensor that channels ambient light down through an acrylic prism to automatically adjust brightness and contrast.

Again, when T3 saw a demo of this in action, the differences in the picture were certainly noticeable when the sensor was doing its thing.

There are pre-set picture modes also on offer for movie-watching and gaming and, as an added touch, when you hit the standby button the picture slides shut from either side giving you a “curtain” type effect that looks very nice.

BeoVision 11

Bang & Olufsen hasn’t skimped on the connections either. Round the back of the BeoVision 11 you’ll find six HDMI ports, two USB slots and an Ethernet port and even a dedicated slot for Apple TV.

While the majority of these are down at the bottom, a single HDMI, USB and headphone jack have been built into an easily-accessible pop-out slot at the top of the box – meaning you can quickly plug in a flash drive and start watching.

The BeoVision 11 is DLNA compatible, meaning you can stream music from your smartphone or NAS drive, but the built-in Wi-Fi also means you can connect just about anything to the TV. Bang & Olufsen has also released an app for both iOS and Android letting you control the TV from your tablet or smartphone.

The release of the BeoVision 11 comes at a rather critical time for Bang & Olufsen. The company has just announced that sales of its luxury audio and video products have fallen by 20% from June to August, and the corollary was a dip in share price by 4.4%. The fact that the traditional luxury products aren’t selling quite as well at the moment was offset somewhat by the success of the B&O Play brand that was launched at the start of the year.

B&O Play produces more affordable products target towards the younger consumers and features the likes of the B&O BeoPlay A9 and the B&O BeoPlay A3, both of which have been well received. Sales of B&O Play products have risen 95% in the same three month period, the company said on Wednesday.

The BeoVision 11 arrives in selected Bang & Olufsen stores today and is available with a silver or black frame and a rear cabinet in either black or white.

The BeoVision 11 is priced at €5,995 (£4,829) for the 40-inch model, €7,595 (£6,116) for the 46-inch model and €9,995 (£8,048) for the 55-inch model. Additional extras are also available in the form of an integrated hard drive €700 (£564) stationary TV stand €395 (£318) or a motorised wall bracket €795 (£640).

The firm is the first television manufacturer to offer the service on its boxes, which allows users to stream music for a monthly fee. What are Wireless Range Extenders?

A wireless range extender, also known as a wireless repeater enhances the coverage of a wireless network. It requires a pre-existing WiFi network. Using a repeater, the same SSID for the network is maintained (installing a second router would create another wireless network). All this device does is retransmit the signals it gets from the main access point. In this way it is able to relay the signals to areas of a home or workplace that receive low or no signal from the main router. This is all achieved wirelessly, with the device only requiring a power source and a decent location to function.

Normally, one wireless repeater has lots of modes - wireless repeating being just one of them. These modes are often wireless access point, wireless bridge or wireless repeater. There are, however, a good number of good devices available that are dedicated repeaters. These are often very straightforward to configure (in comparison with a multi-mode device that may require more in-depth set-up work). They are also usually a lot more compact than the devices with multiple modes, and can be directly plugged into a power outlet (with no cable required).

Are some computers in your house or office too far away from your wireless router to be able to link up to the network? You might find a wireless repeater helpful. It is usual to have limited network availability on different floors or on a patio in a home with one wireless access point situated in the office, for instance. It all varies with distances and building materials, naturally - in some cases the signal can have a hard time covering any more than one level. In such circumstances a wireless repeater gives a simple solution. The low-signal area can be linked up to the network by placing a repeater at some point in between the main router and the area where coverage is needed.

Some crucial features one may want to look out for when shopping for a wireless repeater are compatibility, range and ease of setup. The next level in high-speed wireless connection is Wireless-N. This technology has the range and capacity to support the high bandwidth usage of game consoles and streaming high-definition video. Not all wireless-capable devices are Wireless-N compatible, however; especially older devices will only work with a repeater compatible with the older B and G bands. It's a good idea, then to buy backwards-compatible repeater devices to cover all bases (most are, but just in case).

While shopping for a wireless repeater, it's helpful to know how much of a boost is needed. If the signal just needs a small bump (in a situation where, for example, the signal reaches the desired area but is a bit frail) this will not matter much, but in the case of more demanding signal increases needed a higher-quality repeater with good maximum reach is required. The best measure for this is likely to be looking over user reviews to get an idea what other people have managed to do with a given device.

Finally, it's recommended to get a device with straightforward configuration instructions if possible. Often the documentation can be somewhat incomprehensible, and if you're not too technical minded you might run into trouble. Once more, this is a place where customer reviews are a valuable place to look; also sometimes searching for help on the internet will lead to a helpful detailed outline to set up your wireless repeater if you're running into problems.

James Shelton writes about wireless technology and reviews a variety of wireless devices. For lots more information on wireless range extender devices and a bunch of reviews of high-selling models currently on the market, visit wirelessrepeaterhq.com.
