BioShock Infinite has returned to gamers' radars with an explosive new trailer that showcases high-octane action
BioShock Infinite fans rejoice! In spite of the news that there have been some high-profile exits from developer Irrational Games - including the game's AI lead and combat designer - Irrational's Steampunk FPS is not on its way to becoming vaporware. If the latest trailer is anything to go by, BioShock Infinite is set to be an explosive shooter, its action on a par with the best Triple A blockbuster releases.
The trailer opens with the game's protagonist, ex-Pinkerton Booker DeWitt, intoning that he's in the floating city of Columbia to settle a debt. The opening moments show off Columbia in all its glory; this is a Steampunk wonder where artificial beach-front piers rub shoulders with majestic marble buildings, where lowlit diners sit comfortably next to leafy parks and cobbled streets. Players will also catch a glimpse of one of the game's tougher mini-bosses, the Handyman, here displayed on stage by what looks like a proprieter of Betterman Autobodies.
When the action explodes on screen, players can also take note of the arrary of weapons on offer in the game; in the footage we see Booker let loose witha Gatling Gun, a submachine gun, a pistol and a shotgun. The gameplay also seems to mix up supernatural powers with gunbattles; in the trailer DeWitt hurls a lightning bolt at a turret and uses a flock of birds to attack his enemies. Players can also see DeWitt use the Sky Hook to latch onto the rails that run between the floating platforms of Columbia.
Best off all, the trailer ends with bona fide release date, which if it's to be believed, will see BioShock Inifinite hit retail stores next year on February 26th. We'll just have to barely contain our excitement until then...
